It is obvious that to me and my couple of worthy readers do not give a dam of the sanremo music festival, at night we read dostoevskiy while listening to keith jarrett (little white lies but I’ve seen him…)
So we couldn’t care less of the relative compilation.
Although yesterday… while I was going to the cinema to watch a great movie (religulous), I walked into the fnac in via torino. I looked around.. And I got hold of one of the CD of infact the sanremo music festival.
Now, I don’t know if this is known to everyone and I am the last one but, don’t you think that there is something strange about it?
All of the singers (except the first three) are in alphabetical order.
Good.
Lets take the first three.
Especially the first one, which, by the way! He’s the one who won the festival!
And I don’t think they printed the cover Saturday night to send it in via torino in milan Sunday morning.
There is very little to do: it’s all a scheme.

To tell you the truth I always thought that those so called workshops were looked to me like a whole load of crap: couple of models, couple of photographers that photograph them all together and the illusion that you have learned something.
I am someone who’s concrete, so I would like that whoever refers to me professionally undergoes the same concreteness: little smoke and lots of roast.
So when I had the opportunity to know about the “toscana photographic workshop” I found the space and the way to, finally, do a workshop with seriousness and concrete professionality that I find are fundamental.
At the end of July we will then be in tuscany…

A day of shooting at the doria gym, in milan, historic boxing place. The “character” I shot is a “ballerina”, which I keep for now out of focus: beautiful and gracious.
In this photograph it’s me and her, metaphor for the battle betlween models and photographers.
It’s life!
Ps: at the end she won!

Every year the insert of the corriere della sera, the corriere magazine, asks to a certain number of photographers to shoot on the same day, the 14th of January, to try and freeze italy in one precise historic day. Deep down, banal but not always obvious, the most immediate and strong quality of photography is to document and stop time.
I am featured in this issue, with this photograph above: I thought that the best thing to do was to document what I know up close and personal, my daily working environment. Therefore not only photographing the model but especially what surrounds her, in an almost infinite grid lock of images inside other images.
Think of my presumption! While I was shooting I was even thinking of velasquez and his most famous painting, las meninas!
And for once the model is not being the star of the moment looking into the camera but, looking into nothing, she asks herself: what am I doing amongst these buffoons?
Everything is here http://www.corriere.it/appsSondaggi/pages/corriere/d_4259.jsp
UPDATE: as with the image above, there is a net of links which from the corriere come back here and from here to somewhere else… if, after you saw the backstage, you want to see the full final shoot done on the 14th of January, you will find it on the site of max magazine http://max.rcs.it/girls/0902_02maxcasting_gertrude.shtml
