amsterdam

i’m in holland, for a quick meeting.
but this is not what i want to talk about, i want to talk about bergamo airport, orio al serio, from where i left to come here.
especially some times ago, and sometimes also now, to go to the airport and catch a flight was somehow mythical, in the sense it wasn’t only going from one place to another place, but the whole experience was particularly fascinating: the charm of the airport, a place but not a place, with shops where you almost feel obliged to buy something, attracted by the tax free, the charm of the people that just because they choose to travel by plane, had a particular aura, the charm of the ticket, all those little numbers and the thousands of envelops the agency gave you, sometimes they would also give you a big plastic folder with the agency logo where you could place all you needed; the charm of the hostess, and one could imagine they were sleeping in luxurious hotels, today in tokyo tomorrow, in new york, the food that despite being served in tiny trays was distributed surprisingly rationally and efficiently ….. well, flying was really something smart.
yesterday i went for the first time into orio al serio airport, with the air ticket printed from an email in my hand.
what can i say, there is very little to say … everything, the check-in, the take-off, the flight, the landing, had the charm of a travel on a vw city golf back and forth on the highway nothing more, nothing less.
inside the airport there is also an “autogrill” and i could not help it and had a capri sandwich and a small bier.
the newspapers kiosk closes at 10pm on the plane you have to pay for drinks and snacks.
well …. it’s all over, also the emotion and the charm of a trip by plane have disappeared.
maybe the great flaiano was right by saying: there are many ways to travel, the best one is not to leave …..

book

i have a natural and justified hatesyncrasy towards books “en vogue”.
i haven’t read and i think never will the da vinci code, three meters above the sky … and all those books, and when in the past i gave in to the “must read” book i had tragic experiences, one title above all “go where the heart takes you”…. bleah!
i was therefore very hesitant if i should face this book: the kite’s hunter by hosseini khaled.
But during the recent trip to china I devoured it, with great pleasure and also a certain amount of emotion.
I even have a small anecdote: during the flight back suddenly, maybe caused by that damned chinese food, i had a bad stomach pain.
well, not exactly stomach pain, but mainly winds in the stomach. to use an elegant term, meteorism.
it was hard, i couldn’t hold it, I tried, up to a certain point I was going to the toilet, but then i was sorry to bother my neighbor, I was sitting by the window.
Well i made peace with myself and stopped worrying, and started unashamed and unpunished to fart continuously. What could I do, i was not feeling well at all!
But in the meantime i was reading the last pages of the book, slowly so i could enjoy them up to the end of the flight, and this contributed to the excess of emotions …. i have to admit at one stage i also .. well ….. started crying.
i was farting and crying.
i wonder what my neighbor, a very elegant french man, was thinking about the Italian sitting next to him, farting and crying ….

the title is china only because i’m still here in bejing
but the topic i want to discuss is suggested by a title from today’s corriere on line, that obviously i check every day.
first thing: corriere is a newspaper i like a lot and i always bought and read. great journalists that i admire a lot write articles on it, one above all is gian antonio stella.
but, let me say, why insist in calling fabrizio corona that was arrested today a “photographer”? i can understand during the first few days the mess he found himself because all happened very fast …. but now there was enough time!
fine, it is not that important, and it could like as if i notice it because i work in the field, but if they for once speak about something i know exactly and i see such a huge mistake, how can i trust them to give the correct information when the talk about kabul or bagdad?
fabrizio corona is not a photographer, he owns an agency that produces and distributes photographic…, he never took a picture in his life.
besides that i have written about “things i know exactly and directly” because i know fabrizio corona well, i’ve worked with him a lot, obviously not as “paparazzo”, but for portraits of famous people and advertising campaigns. i don’t know what he could have done, but, i’d like to point out that i personally have always worked well with him and i never sensed any swindle, more or less clean or legal, that now looks as if they were an important part of his activity.
but let’s live corona alone, hoping he can soon come out of his mess, let’s go back to the page of corriere here above, i would like to focus on the sentence attributed to prodi, where they write “famigliari”
famigliari??? with a g???
shouldn’t it be familiari?
mistakes, inaccuracy, inaccuracy …
so? what should we believe? who? are facts real or only opinions?

fuck! you really did fax to me!
thanks a million to those who wrote, i never put names on my blog, but i really want to thank you.
i’m still in beijing, and to tell you the truth i really am up to here.
it really seems to me that these chinese are big assholes, i agree it is superficial and approximate to assess in such a rough way 1.400 billion people, with a culture thousand of years old, and so on ….. but this is the way i see it. i do not have any admiration for their incredible economic growth, and i do not understand it: nobody speaks english, they are totally unorganized, messy and muddled, i really cannot see how this can be compatible with a nation that wants to reach “first” world status.
i haven’t seen a bookshop, a cinema, a theater, only shops and shops and shops.
i’m afraid of the real truth: all this is based, like in ancient egyptian and roman times, on one reality only, not technology, not innovation, here all is based on slavery.
millions of people that like in the beautiful movie “metropolis” by
fritz lang, all lined up working, working and working.
one image above all to picture how it works: there are men working on the borders of highways filled with cars, normally women dressed with a orange overall, sweeping the side of the road for kilometers no end.
advertising everywhere, all lifts have a small plasma screen with constant continuous advertising.
skyscrapers covered by giant light walls also screening only constant advertising..
something in between metropolis, as i said, and blade runner: if the future must look like this, we are not in very good shape….
