“My name is Marta, I’m twentyfour years old and I’m a fireblower. I started by chance 8 years ago, I was in Foggia with friends and to collect some money I offered to perform with fire, we wanted to buy wine but didn’t have any money. I’d seen my ex boyfriend do it, and so I also tried. At the time I was a punk and already i had left home for a year with my dog that was my travel companion, my stove and my pillow. i was sleeping wherever possible : buildings illegaly occupied, vans, under the stars. I was ging around Italy and now and then I was showing with fire, I was using torches, the `’diablo”, the `’devil sticks” and balls. At eighteen i became part of a “sound system”, a group of ypung people that lived in vans and participated in events and fairs. we played music with big loud speakers. During that period I binged a lot so I took care of the bar and was helping with transport and installations. After the group split i came back to Italy and tried to do odd jobs like distribution of leaflets or the cubist in a night club, but that life was not for me and so i started again with my real passion: the fire. Today this is my job, I have shows almost every night at the Colonne di S. Lorenzo and at the Navigli, here in Milan. I feel this is my life, and I want to try and do it at a more professional level, not only on the streets and social events. Last week in Genova, I took part on a show of a music group, I was performing at the rithm of their gypsy music. now I have my own van, an old Mercedes 608: it is my home, here I keep my books, my videotapes, a gas heater, the stove to cook and boxes to store my things. I love my solitary life, but always with lots of friends and especially with my new dog: Draga, a dogue de berdeaux seventeen months old. she is like me, a gipsy around the world, strong sweet and stubborn. I want to make it.”

from dagospia: “Tell Milena Gabanelli not to go to the newstand and to avoid buying a copy of “Uomo Vogue”: she would have a fit. few weeks after the reaction provoqued by the tv program “Report”, the tzarina ‘Frana’ Sozzani has pushed the gas pedal: here is her child Francesco Carrozzini taking photographs of the art couple Paolo Canevari e Marina Abramovic; then is the turn of the boyfriend of della Sozzani, Luca Stoppini, to take shots of Calopresti.”

PHOTOGRAPHY CAN BE REVOLUTIONARY, BECAUSE IT FEEDS WHISHES, AND WHISHES, BEYING SYMPTOMS OF CRISES, AND THEREFORE OF CHANGES, ARE ALWAYS REVOLUTIONARIES.
THE WHISH, IN THESE PHOTOS OF MY, IS TO SPY IN THE LIFE OF OTHERS, WHICH IS ITSELF A METAPHORE OF THE PHOTOGARPHY: WHEN TAKING A PHOTO WE CHOOSE WHAT TO OUTLINE IN THE WORLD IN FRONT OF US. I ELECT AND THEREFORE CHOOSE. AND THE ELECTED BECOMES A PROTAGONIST OF MY PHOTOGRAPHS. LIKE THESE IMAGES, WHERE IN A COLD AND NOCTURNAL MILAN, I FIND MYSELF SPYING FROM A WINDOW ON A COURTYARD, AND WITHOUT A PLASTERED LEG, A COUPLE THAT FINDS ONLY IN THE INTIMACY THE COURAGE TO CONFESS ITS OWN SECRETS. I SPY. I OBSERVE. FROM FAR BUT ALSO FROM VERY CLOSE. I’M HERE BUT I DO NOT EXIST. “
an article i published a year ago, but never placed on the site. i do it now. here: http://www.benedusi.it/portfolio/?Form_Album=80&Form_Photo=893

as italians we are specialists in talking badly about ourselves, and now it is a 0real trend, thanks also to books like “la casta” of the great stella, movements like the one of beppe grillo, everybody is there pointing their finger to this that doesn’t work, that doesn’t work, this stinks, that stinks, politicians makes us puke, and it goes on and on…. i’m not sure this is the right thing, also because the politicians at government are us, to start with, and secondly, if someone start pointing the finger must have the courage and the commitment to stand up and set an example first but also the willingness to change matters: i don’t know how many of us have these qualities. i therefore don’t want to criticize. i can’t. i can’t do it. but one thing i can do with great pleasure, it is in my genes: i witness. i gather information, i take pictures. i show to others. here are two examples of italy in 2008: – here above is a photograph i took with my cell phone few days ago, in the mountains, in champoluc, it is a small village in val d’aosta where i sometimes go skiing. you can see two buildings, one is the church, the other one is the cinema. in your opinion which one is which? exactly! the cinema on the left and the church on the right. i swear! during this week the ecopass has been inaugurated in milan, it is a pay system for vehicles driving through town, to decrease the traffic and therefore pollution, fantastic! as soon as i’ve heard about this i was really happy, although this decision has been taken by a municipal committee i’ve not voted for. well done! less cars less pollution. i own a car, honestly far too big, and with a far too powerful engine. i use it very seldom, but i still feel vaguely guilty of owning such a vehicle, although i keep it in the garage and never ever drive it in milan, always only for trips out of town. i would have like to eliminate completely my pollution guilt feelings by paying a big lot of ecopass if necessary. i went then on the municipality site to add my number plate and ….?!?! nothing! i have nothing to pay! it is not considered as polluting. a 3000cc. petrol engine is not polluting?!?!? but if someone shuts himself inside a garage with this engine running, doesn’t he die?!?! i want to pay 50 euro a day to drive in town with my car! well, happy new year to everybody, in this italy of 2008
