Tommy Retrò tommy already wrote to me sometimes ago showing me his work. he mainly shoots in black and white, and if i understood well he uses negatives and acids and prints … like once upon a time. and “like once upon a time” is the flavour of his images, surely with a wide open eye towards mr. newton, but like i told him once, we all have a role model, better to choose a good one.” the image of nudity with x rays is mysterious, the spectator/photographer becomes more inquirer, even more “penetrating” in the life of others, more than what he is already. it recalls an aesthetic of the 40’ with spies, nazi germany, of questioning and so on …. it is peculiar that both winners won the benedusi competition with a black and white image: i wanted to reward what looked to me more “artistic” because i believe young people should dare: the time will come to take color photos of taps ….. well done tommy , tommy has a website, here it is : http://www.tommy-retro.com/

Cristina Sansigolo cristina did what one should NOT do: besides sending the photos via e-mail, she came directly to my studio. it’s something one shouldn’t do, one has to phone, send an e-mail and try to make an appointment …. the girl already started on the wrong foot. but she sent a very interesting work. cristina is 29 and she went to the Brera academy of fine arts. the photo i publish is part of a series on beauty and body, where reality and fantasy fuse in an oniric and in my opinion a very profound way. a very important quality of these images, like those of the other winner, is that they are part of a very precise project: it is not so important to take a good photo, it is far more important to have a good idea. a good photo can happen by chance, a series of images linked by a common thread and by, i insist, one good idea doesn’t ever happen by chance. well done cristina. first of all i thank all those who sent e-mails with their work: i have received 66 portfolios.
thanks to everybody. many of the works i received were good. some excellent. there are two winners. they will be able to come to my studio for a whole day and i will try, within my limits, to give them some advise and suggestions. here above one image each of the two young photographers. until next time….
