    IPAD APPLICATION FOR MAX MAGAZINE

The monthly magazine Max, with which I collaborate, has made available an iPad application since a few weeks.

As soon as it was released it ranked high up as one of the most downloaded app. It is a well thought application, because it is not just a PDF version of the magazine, but almost a magazine as itself, for many things it is the same and for many others it is very different from the paper version.

For example one thing that is different its periodicity, which as a matter of fact, makes sense for when it is in the news stands, while it has less when we deal with it online.

And by the way a special edition for the end of the year has been released, with the cover and an editorial done by me.

For my dear readers I have a little end of the year present, two unpublished images…

So here are the facts: the editorial above here was made twice, edited and then reedited. The first time it was judged too sexy for Apple and therefore tossed in the can. Therefore we redid it more chaste. Which is the one that everyone has seen. Here below, for your eyes only, two images of the first shoot.

    Well they weren’t all wrong… 😉

    Happy New Year!

    PALAGINI CALENDAR

Luckily fashion calendars are dying: I have done my fare share in the past, but in the end always feeling ashamed.

The classic images of naked ladies being sexy with the months printed on top they were honestly, and are, an horrible, vulgar and above all useless.

When it was asked of me, a while ago, to shoot for yet another calendar, I was fearing of heading over to yet another piece of crap. Thanks instead to an enlightened client and to a good art director I was free to conceptualize something that I enjoyed doing.

I had a story in my head about an eccentric and crazy woman that lives, as an eccentric and crazy, in a beautiful and rich building, but at the same time poor and abandoned, a little bit like her: she talks through disconnected telephones, she enjoys swinging over flights of stairs which where luxurious once upon a time, she sleeps on beds surrounded by dry leaves…

    Very chic crazy!

The client is Palagini and the art director is Francesco Roncaglia.

And these are my photographs, click on the images to enlarge:

    JACOPO BENASSI EXPOSITION

Jacopo Benassi is a great photographer. Or better, he is a great artist.

His book “the ecology of the image” is one of the most beautiful photographic books I have ever seen. Diane Arbus, Weegee, Robert Frank… in the tradition of these masters a real great italian master himself.

His blog is the stage where he showcases his art, his life.

Not to be the one always copying from the guy next to him, but Mr. Thorimbert has written some illustrious words on his blog:

    “There are 458 photographs.

A river about to overflow with images which leave you without words. And it is right. The image replaces here are a substitute for everything.

The images take you from behind, they lick you on the neck, pain which hurts, which resonates in your brain like a plank brought in by the swell straight in your teeth, taste of blood, smell of body.

Ordinary people ordinary famous people beds slippers little trains blood hair things places eyes mouths kisses socks pigs bogs brothers mothers friends.

Everyone is there everyone is the same, all human, all full of us, all seen from up close and personal, very personal, seeing in bed, caught on the act of, fucked while waiting for, after having, during which, when there…

Mirrors mirrors. With a wig, with a mask, with a grin.

So much need to be loved, for whom we really are, for how I am, for how are you,for how is Benassi

Tomorrow 17th of December he is opening an exhibition with his work in Palermo, by the Zelle Arte Contemporanea: if you are in the area go to it, if you are not around that area go anyways.

I, unfortunately, am shooting in Portugal, therefore, unfortunately, won’t be there. If I was in Italy I would have taken the first flight and I would have flown my ass to Jacopo.

Here below Jacopo Benassi by Jacopo Benassi:

    JACOPO, MY FRIEND, GOOD LUCK!!!

    BRAZIL

Not in the namesake of the beautiful film, but in its geographical sense. In short, without stretching it too much, I am still, for a few days, working here in brasil.

I was first up in the mountains. You heard me, mountains. As if I was in Cortina for summer. There where cows and green grass. I spent a lot of time chasing cows trying to get them to turn around, trying obviously to reenact  the cover of the famous album.

I was in a very beautiful place. Surreal to think I was in Brasil, nonetheless beautiful: here<> .

After the mountains came the sea, in even a more surreal place. A tiny little island (two minutes to go around it) it looked like half way between MAD MAX and WATERWORLD. Electricity running only between 18 and 23, with generators. After complete darkness. Pitch black from which you could see nothing. The little island is in fact called the DARK ISLAND.

On this lost and solitary island I wanted a friend of mine to be there, TT, with whom I wanted to take a picture of me, in a rare moment of sun:

This is one of the “rooms”:

If you think two photographers aren’t enough we can also do four:

    Or six!

I wrote “in a rare moment of sun” because the constant, up in the mountains as well as by the sea was the rain. Actually the thunderstorms. Actually the infinite torrential rain. Luckily I like the rain!

You might have had the thought that the door which you see in the video was a submarine’s door? But of course, that is, the door of a submarine! I did mention that the island was post-atomic…

Otherwise all good, I even found parmesan cheese:

Despite the warm friendship of the insatiable danilo russo

I am starting to get a little tired of spinning around, I can’t wait to go back to Italy…
