PALAGINI CALENDAR 2012

When I was given the task to realize, once again, the calendar for the group Palagini I thought and thought about what to do…

Because on the one hand having a forward thinking client that gives you almost complete creative freedom is wonderful, on the other it is a commitment, because it forces you to look for those targets, that direction, those precise objectives which are essential to have before creating the work.

It is a bit like the difference between searching and finding: in a normal job situation they tell you what to look for and you bust your gut knowing more or less in which direction to go towards (if they tell you to look for mushrooms you go in the mountains, so to speak…), meanwhile in the free environment work you have to find something that you don’t even know what it is, where it is and why.

Anyways… thinking, thinking and thinking what to do, how and why… one  bright day I found, clear and limpid, who to inspire me! I even had a model! Precise! Perfect for the job: myself!!!

Exactly! I went back in time and I found the inspiration in the two images below, which I took when I was a little over twenty years of age, when I was still living in Imperia:

The solution was right there, at my fingertips! The woman’s body always centered relative to the nature that surrounds her, and within which merges into a mimicry that makes nature a kind of great mother who accepts what naturally comes to her: a woman’s naked body.

Perhaps something curious about these last two pictures: in all this work I have not even minimally retouched the two models (Sabrina and Alana). Zero precisely, I just converted the files to black and white. In these two pictures above I wanted to emphasize the similarity between the body of the model and the hill in the background. So then I retouched a bit… the hill!

Last two things that come to mind looking at the backstage:

–  the reality is what it seems: the crew was very restricted. There was no make up and hair, no stylist, no art director, there wasn’t…there was nothing! It was only me, my assistant, the client and the two models.

–  Is it possible that my lucky tee shirt for shooting is of another photographer?!?
