I don’t know if the latin proverb “asinus asinum fricat” is right to mention, but I have to say that I have the luck of finding wonderful people with whom I work: eva is definitely one of them. Refined beauty, extraordinary delightful, extreme ductility… in short eva’s qualities don’t go to waste. It is truly a pleasure to work with her!

I shot, as always, in a very simple way. The basic concept that I had in mind was to ambient eva in a place/non place of summer, made up only of shadows and lights… in a sort of a dream state…

On the latest max issue there is my usual double spread page for max casting with the 25 years old amanda which celebrates the 25 years of the magazine.

And by the way talking about MAX birthday party, here I am in the extraordinary company of: alberto cancemi, editor of the magazine, and the wonderful ornella vanoni. Exchanging a few words with her I couldn’t hold myself but to tell her that, in my opinion, this has always been one of the best italian albums.

Huge cherry on the cake of the photograph below here, the author: the indomitable toni thorimbert, that did it with his very own technique of the finger on the flash. I am not sure how it works, I fear that you’ll have to ask him…

The concept at the core of my job was very simple: everyone sees the models going around milan with a map in their hands, nobody knows anything about them, they see them as martians that landed on these lands and they imagine them in two different ways, drug addicts, anorexic and half prostitutes, or little princesses that travel only in first class. The truth is neither one of them. I simply tried to show the reality.

And in all truth, I tried to press on the more sad and squalid aspects of their lives. Also because (think about it a little bit!) I wanted this reportage to be relevant to all those young girls that dream about becoming a model, thinking that it is an easy thing to do, quick, lucrative and super cool: it’s not like that. Ok it’s not cool to go to work in a mine either, but nobody thinks it’s not all that cool and fun to go work in a mine, whilst everyone thinks that being a model is cool.

A few days ago she asked me to take a few portraits of herself for her new carrier, as an actress: I am confident that she will do well also in this new adventure of hers, as she is not only beautiful but also very good.

She came to my studio, I put on some sad and melancholic music, I let her be lit by natural light from my big window, I whispered a few words to her, I picked up my canon with the 50 millimeters, she didn’t use any make up nor done her hair and I took pictures of her, for not more than twenty minutes. These are the images that came out, not even retouched, only converted to black and white and grainy.

In the photograph below there are the photographers toni thorimbert, gianni berengo gardin and settimio benedusi. Only one thing is certain, gardin is the venerable teacher. About the other two figures you have freedom of interpretation…

The problem about tragedies is that, as big or as small as they are, they provoke the same habit: at the beginning they astonish us, they affect us and then, inexorably, disappear from the media and we forget about them…

There has been the terrible earthquake in haiti which we all know about. Even this is slowly disappearing, overwhelmed by news of miserable earthquakes nearer to us. But the tragedy continues and it surely won’t be resolved quickly. There is someone documenting daily how things are going down there in the caribbean: in short the emergency is not at all fake, on the contrary.

I (excuse the useless first person protagonist) have given my own contribution, by giving a certain sum of money. But one can do much more and better than that…

So I had the wonderful collaboration of toni thorimbert, the most important italian photographer (there is no way around it, it’s like that…), to collect some money to give to charity.

Toni gave me four beautiful prints to sell. The images are all square and they measure 28,6 x 28,6. They are card board mounted, with the date, stamped and signed on the back.

The first and the second one were shot in portugal in 1994, the third in rome in ’93, the fourth in berlin in ’97.

These four prints are BEAUTIFUL, and they have a price tag well below the usual quotes of this artist: 250 euros each.

What can I say more: I have a presumptuous certainty that who follows my blog could understand that this is a unique chance to have at home an original thorimbert at an excellent figure and knowing that, everytime you enjoy its sight, you’ll think on how your money was well spent for a noble cause.
